THE former owner of the Treasurer’s House - who is said to haunt the house - is the focus of a new exhibition.

Tomorrow the Treasurer’s House will open with tour guides ready to reveal how the house was transformed from a “bug-ridden slum” in the late 1800s to the house of treasures that can be seen today. Frank Green was the last owner of the house before he gave it, complete with its contents, to the National Trust in 1930.

He is also said by staff to be one of the many ghosts haunting the Treasurer’s House having threatened to haunt the house if anyone dare move the furniture.

Bob Scott tour guide said. “Although we still have covers on a lot of the furniture at this time of year, the stories we tell on the tour are of the owner, Frank Green. He was a really fascinating man, with many quirky stories about his travels, hosting Royalty and his passion for buying antiques.”

The Treasurer’s House will be open by guided tour only for two weeks from 11am to 3pm, Saturday to Thursday.

Then from February 28 the house and garden will be fully open from 11am to 5pm, Saturday to Thursday.
