CYCLISTS have helped to trace bike thieves by coding their belongings.
Police officers were at Walmgate's Bicis Y Mas bike shop and cafe on Saturday to register them on a database by tagging items with a unique code.
If the bikes are stolen and found, officers will be able to match the code to reunite them with its owner.
Police were invited into the shop by general manager, Adam McLean, and plans to host similar events throughout the year.
He said: "They recorded serial numbers on their products, so it's much safer to return the items if they are stolen.
"It's an important thing to do if they can find out where something has come from they can return stolen goods.
"We are going to run a couple more sessions throughout the year and having an evening ride out on Wednesday, so the police can record bikes during the week."
