WORK has begun on new affordable homes in Tadcaster, Selby District Council and Housing Trust have announced.
Major development plans to transform the former District Council office at 43 Kirkgate will transform the former offices into three apartments and a ground floor commercial space.
Planning permission for this development was given last year and it is estimated that the project will be completed by April 2015.
Councillor John Mackman, chairman of the Housing Trust said: “It’s great to see that the work has commenced at 43 Kirkgate. “This project is the start of a new chapter for affordable housing provision in Selby District”.
Councillor Chris Metcalfe added: “This is the result of the hard work of the partnership between the Housing Trust and the Tough Stuff Board to improve Tadcaster and tackle dereliction in the town.
“This is about our work to regenerate Tadcaster and enable the town to fulfil its role as a local service centre.”
Wakefield based RH Fullwood and Co Ltd are building the new homes.
