DEAF and hearing impaired residents have been urged to have their say on sport and physical activities in York.

City of York Council has created an online survey to look at what people with hearing impairments want to see, and whether they want to play sports with similarly-affected players.

The survey also asks for communication requirements, and whether people use British Sign Language, spoken English, lip reading or any other forms of communication.

Councillor Sonja Crisp said: "This survey will help us expand the sport and active leisure offering into new areas so it is important that people tell us what they would like to take part in.

"We recently welcomed Deaf and hearing impaired participants to the Celebrating Activity Week in August, and following their feedback we have already set up an inclusive, Deaf friendly running club and are working towards a Deaf friendly badminton club."

The survey is online at york.gov.uk/sportsurveys or contact Glyn Newberry to request a hard copy. Responses must be returned by Friday, December 19.
