A WOMAN was physically assaulted on a train between York and Scarborough.
British Transport Police said a man was verbally abusing a woman he was travelling with on the 8.35pm service at just after 9.30pm on Thursday, October 16, before he attacked her.
Passengers reported the incident to staff at the train station, and a 40-year-old Scarborough man was arrested and later released on bail.
PC Ian Hancox said BTP need to speak to the passengers on the train, to help conclude the investigation and urged them to come forward.
He said: "Unfortunately the passengers who alerted the guard left the train before providing their details to officers. We would really like to trace them as they have important information which will assist this investigation "If that was you, please contact us. We would also like to hear from anyone else who may have been travelling on the service and witnessed what took place."
Anyone with information should phone British Transport Police on 0800 405040, text details to 61016, or phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
