TWO Yorkshire fish and chip shops are in the running to be crowned Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year.
Mister C’s in Selby and Fish & Chips at 149 in Bridlington are among six shops shortlisted to become the North East England regional winner.
The shortlisted shops were judged on criteria including product quality, sustainable sourcing, marketing and customer service by industry experts and a mystery diner.
Mister C’s owner Mark Corbally said “It’s a massive area that we cover, so we’re extremely proud. All the staff are very pleased.
“We’ve worked very hard to get to this stage. We weren’t actually aware of when the mystery shopper came in so we had to be on the ball all the time.”
The ten regional winners will be announced in October, and will be invited on a study trip to Norway to see why it is regarded as one of the world’s most sustainable fishing nations.
The national title will then be awarded to one of the regional winners at The National Fish & Chip Awards ceremony on January 20, 2015 at The Lancaster London Hotel.
Seafish, the national seafood authority, organises the awards.
