DROP-IN information and advice sessions are to start at a growing community hub in Acomb,

City of York Council officers are to start the sessions at Lidgett Grove Methodist Church every Wednesday from 9.30-11.30am, to give advice on housing issues, anti-social behaviour or housing-related debt.

The church is becoming a focus for the Acomb community after it launched a popular Community Cafe, which has since been nominated for a Community Pride award as Community Project of the Year.

Talks are now going on with Explore York Libraries and Archives to bring them into the hub, and York College students have been involved in design projects for the building’s modifications and grants are being sought to fund them. The students also fitted a new kitchen donated by Howdens, and the church office has been furnished thanks to Langley’s solicitors.

Other events including Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s "Dig In" project are now on the way to the church, and Time Bank volunteers have created raised beds in the grounds where people can learn to grow their own food.
