Care home residents are to have fortnightly sports and games sessions to help them maintain their health for longer.

A series of taster sessions in boccia, which is related to bowls, exercises that can be done in a chair and parachute games proved so popular at council-run older people's homes, the activities will now be run every fortnight.

Coun Tracey Simpson Laing, health portfolio holder said: “Physical activity sessions are a great way of helping older people to maintain their movement and flexibility, as well as reducing loneliness and isolation. With a growing ageing population, it’s vitally important that we try to ensure that older people have a good quality of life in later years: keeping active is a key component.”
