MORE than half the people who responded to a consultation over council buildings in Harrogate support plans for a new purpose-built site.

Fifty-seven percent of the consultation replies to Harrogate Borough Council were in favour of new-build offices on Knapping Mount, rather than consolidating staff into three existing buildings.

The council will now consider the options at an extraodinary meeting on Wednesday, August 27.

But a third option - to build new offices at Hornbeam Park - became available during the consultation period, and next week the council's cabinet could decide to investigate that plan as well, meaning the extraordinary meeting would be postponed.

Council leader Richard Cooper said: "I would like to thank everyone who responded to this consultation. It has been extremely important to give local residents, businesses, council employees, councillors, voluntary organisations and local interest groups, the opportunity to have their say on these proposals."
