COUNCIL bosses have approved a bid for funding to improve the rail line between York and Harrogate in a move which has been welcomed by a North Yorkshire MP.
North Yorkshire County Council’s executive is to apply for cash from the North Yorkshire Local Transport Board to install a double track on the route between Knaresborough and Cattal. The total cost of improvements is expected to be about £12.5 million, with the bid expected to be about £1.25 million.
Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones said the potential upgrade could ultimately include electrification and also new signals, platforms and rolling stock, and said: “For the first time, we have MPs, local authorities, business leaders and civil companies all making the case for an improved line.”
