POLICE will have “high-visibility” patrols in place in a North Yorkshire town this weekend as an Orange Order parade is staged.
The Harrogate Sons of William 1685 Lodge plans to march through Harrogate on Saturday, with up to 200 people expected to join its 11 members. The parade coincides with the town’s Christmas market, and North Yorkshire Police said they will be on duty to deal with incidents.
The lodge refused a request to change the route of the parade to a quieter route for safety reasons.
County councillor George Webber was among those claiming the event would offend Catholics, but lodge member Dale Parkyn said it was not designed to “deliberately upset people”.
