Choirgirl Gabriella Commins shelters from the wind and rain near York Minster
YORK, North and East Yorkshire was swept by driving wind and rain as a brief period of cold, dry frosty weather came to an end yesterday.
The milder Atlantic air spread across the country, dramatically raising the temperatures of recent days.
However, many shoppers and visitors to York still braved the elements to seek out bargains and soak up the festive atmosphere.
Today is expected to be mostly dry with sunny spells and a few showers.
Forecasters are predicting bright or sunny spells and showers over the coming days, and overnight frost patches.
The outlook is expected to be drier by Tuesday.
