WINNERS of a new award scheme at the University of York have been announced.
The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Outstanding Achievement recognise and reward staff and students who have made significant contributions to key elements in the university plan.
The awards are divided into categories including Excellence, Internationalisation, Inclusivity and Sustainability, all related to the university plan, and vice-chancellor Professor Brian Cantor presented the awards to the winners at a meeting of University Court.
A total of 68 groups or individuals were nominated and the winners were chosen by a panel chaired by Prof Cantor.
The winners included the CNAP Artemisia Research team for its professional contribution to global sustainability and delivery of artemisinin supplies for the treatment of malaria.
Professor Howard Wilson was awarded for his contributions to fusion research and outstanding leadership and innovation in creating the York Plasma Institute.
Ellen Roberts won an accolade for championing excellence in an online teaching and learning environment.
Professor Simon Duckett and Professor Gary Green were also awarded, for inventing a new method with the potential to revolutionise medical diagnostic imaging that has led to an investment of £7 million in facilities.
