THIS is the postcard that has totally baffled a vicar who received it 43 years after it was sent.

The Rev Geoffrey Hollingsworth, of Pocklington, said it first arrived at the Vicarage on earlier this month.

Addressed to Gladys Christie, the wife of Canon Graham Christie, who was vicar of Pocklington between 1962 and 1980, he thought at first it was sent by the late canon himself.

But Canon Christie’s son, who was sent a photcopy of the card, believes it is not his father’s handwriting and it is thought the card is signed with the initials CC.

The postcard was sent from Acaster with the postmark of September 10, 2010, although it was dated January 27, 1967. It says: “The name of the book is ‘A House of Many Rooms’ by Rodello Hunter.

“It grows on you, like the rooms did! CC”

Mr Hollingsworth said: “Does anybody know who CC could be?

“It could be a friend of Mrs Christie from the 1960s, and it could be that the other person is still alive or has family somewhere who knows that their mum or grandmother was a friend of Mrs Christie.”

He is also seeking answers as to why the postcard arrived only now and he believes somebody must have returned the postcard to the postal system for it to eventually be posted.
