LOCAL dignitaries were treated to star status when they officially opened the new Co-operative food store in Pocklington which has relaunched following a £340,000 transformation.
The Mayor of Pocklington, Councillor Paul West, joined town crier, Geoff Sheasby, to cut the ribbon with store manager Donna Laverick.
The store will also be a hub of the community, with information about local events, and details about how groups can benefit from The Co-operative Membership’s Community Fund, which distributes monies to support for local good causes.
Donna said: “I’m excited about welcoming customers into the new-look store, which will offer a completely different shopping experience. The Co-operative is a community retailer, and so we are committed to playing a real role in local life. I’m delighted to welcome the local Mayor and town crier into the store to share in our special day.”
The store has a “community pioneer”, Matthew Leary, appointed as part of a new programme that sees a member of the store team with an additional remit to foster a strong involvement in community activity.
