EAST Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Cabinet has agreed more than £12 million of investments for developments across the county.

The cabinet agreed to invest £6.9 million for regeneration in Bridlington and across the East Riding; £1 million on highways and flood prevention; £3 million for new facilities at Wolfreton and Withernsea secondary schools; and put aside £1.19 million for reserves to manage future pressures in adult and child social care budgets.

The council is also to spend £300,000 setting up a high street regeneration project for towns and villages across the East Riding.

Council leader Stephen Parnaby said the investment was possible because of good financial planning from the authority in the face of heavy cuts from central government.

He added: “I am proud to say that, despite these challenging circumstances, we have been able to spend over £80 million in the last financial year on improving our roads, schools and leisure facilities, as well as on building new homes. Our robust financial management during the past year, and planning ahead for savings in the future, has enabled us to make further investments of around £10 million in the coming financial year whilst still protecting key services.”
