A BUS service linking East Yorkshire towns and villages with York has been saved.

East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) will run the new number 18, service linking Market Weighton, Holme-on-Spalding Moor and local villages with York Designer Outlet and the centre of the city, on eight journeys each way between Monday and Saturday from April 28.

Extra late services will operate between York and Holme-on-Spalding Moor on Friday and Saturday nights.

The new route is being launched after the contract for a previous service ended, with increased prices leaving local councils unable to continue it.

EYMS started providing a commercial service every two hours, but some peak and evening journeys were not covered and City of York Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council provided the firm with some financial support to include these n the final timetable.

The operator’s commercial manager, Bob Rackley, said: “We were glad to be able to step in at our own commercial risk the run the new service and provide a link to York Designer Outley, and we hope people will enjoy using the new bus and it proves popular.”

The new timetable will be available at eyms.co.uk from April 14 and EYMS representatives will be at Holme-on-Spalding Moor Village Hall between 10am and midday on April 12 and the Tesco store in Market Weighton between 12.30pm and 3pm the same day.
