YOUNG people from East Yorkshire took part in the Humberside Police Night Challenge this weekend.

The event saw 150 people aged between 13 and 17 complete a 10.5-mile hike across the East Riding with challenges along the way set up by Humberside Police Scenes of Crime Team, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Humberside Fire and Rescue, Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteers Club (HALO) and HM Prison Service Humber.

The challenges include orienteering skills, building skills, crime scene observations and communication skills, with an aim to help young people work together and tackle challenging tasks.

Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Grove’s deputy, Paul Robinson, said: “Night Challenge is recognised as making a significant contribution in diverting young people away from drugs, alcohol and crime.

“To be spending time with such positive role models from the police, volunteers and all involved agencies can only benefit the young people taking part.”
