Archives reveal fears over nuclear threat in East Yorkshire
NEWLY-OPENED archives have shed light on East Yorkshire’s fears over nuclear war and the experiments carried out on blast shelters to protect families.
Emergency planning slides in the Humberside County Council archive collection, held by the East Riding Archives and Local Studies Service in Beverley, show the authority looked at whether a typical family might be able to survive the nuclear fallout by hiding in an underground shelter with limited food, through an experiment called Falfox.
