HE made some of York’s most famous timepieces, including one for the racecourse. Now clockmaker Geoffrey Newey has died at the age of 87.
As his daughter Sarah says, his death is a sad loss for the city, but Geoffrey leaves behind a rich legacy including the Coney Street clock over St Martin le Grand, which he made from scratch.
It undoubtedly stands testament to a very fine man.
