COUNCIL bosses are considering giving local people more say over how ward budgets are spent.
But there’s a sting in the tail. Community groups may also be asked to manage some local spaces – and even organise local clean-ups.
The proposed devolvement of more spending powers to local neighbourhoods comes as the council is looking to cut £12 million off its budget.
We welcome the fact that local people could be given more say. But this is a two-edged sword. We wouldn’t want to see neighbourhoods neglected because of council cost-cutting.
