IT’S DIFFICULT to know how to top last weekend’s Grand Départ. The weather was nearly perfect, the landscape looked glorious, could this county hope for a better advert on a global stage?

Quite possibly, because this week the Great Yorkshire Show will showcase everything else that is fantastic about this part of the world.

Now in its 156th year, the event is England’s premier agricultural show and again features record entries in the competitive classes as well as oversubscribed applications for the trade stands.

But the show is not only about farming. There is something for everyone, from a fashion catwalk to masterclasses with some of the county’s leading chefs.

More than 130,000 visitors are expected to flock through the gates and while we may never see anything like the Tour de France again, every year the Great Yorkshire Show does a fine job of advertising how wonderful this county is.
