MOST young men of 21 parade in their super cars.

What is more, he has two of them, and while his contemporaries are out having a good time on weekends, he is literally waiting to help should a disaster happen.

Ashley is the founder of YorMed Independent Ambulance Service, a business which had its roots when he was 17 at York College and spent a year as a first aid volunteer with the Red Cross.

Eventually he was getting paid at events and registered as self-employed, bringing in fellow first-aiders to help with a growing number of contracts.

Last year Ashley was a finalist in the Young Entrepreneur category, so this time he’s trying again – and going for the Small Business Of The Year title.

His real breakthrough came last year when he bought his first ex-NHS Mercedes Sprinter ambulance, which opened the door to much larger events much further away.

Now he has two ambulances, 25 staff on his books and with skills available up to paramedic level. He has also set up a company to supply uniforms to other private ambulance organisations, sourcing them from Sri Lanka.

But meanwhile his main focus remains YorMed where he also branched out into providing ambulance transport for private clients, including NHS patients..

His ultimate ambition? “To build up a fleet of ambulances which will be operating 24 hours a day,” he said.

Watch those blue lights: He’s coming.
