The Proms In The Garden event featuring the Shepherd Group Brass Band and the York Railway Institute Brass Band at the Mystery Plays Theatre in the Museum Gardens in York
YORK’S Proms In The Gardens has been heralded as a big success.
The event, which was performed on the York Mystery Plays stage in the Museum Gardens on Monday night, saw the world premieres of work by 18-year-old Jack Capstaff, who has already made his name as Britain’s youngest brass band conductor, and David Lancaster’s performances of Sounds Of St Mary’s and City Of Kings.
The pieces performed were a “celebration through the centuries” from the 13th Century right up to the present day, followed in the second half by Last Night At The Proms.’
• BBC Radio York will be broadcasting highlights from the York 800 Proms in the Gardens on Bank Holiday Monday from 1pm to 2pm and also on Yorkshire Brass on Sunday, September 9, from 1pm to 3pm.

One thing I did wonder - is the compere (spelling?) bloke (the ex Corrie guy) paid? I don't know what the norm is. If he isn't all credit to him for doing it, if he is I question why he rather than someone reading equally well the notes for free and therefore more money to the charities would be better.

Watching/listening to the 1812 Overture live was reason enough alone for going.
