Entries for the new-look 2012 Trackrod Rally Yorkshire on September 28 and 29 are officially due to open today.

The rally, comprising the sixth and final round of the RAC British Championship, this year features a new 15-mile Friday night stage in Dalby Forest where the latest generation two-wheel drive cars contesting the series will be joined in action by competitors from the Trackrod Pre ’87 and Historic Cup.

The event, which has a ceremonial start on Scarborough’s West Pier around 6pm on the Friday, continues throughout Saturday before finishing back on the spa town’s seafront which, in addition to the huge variety of cars competing, will play host to a wide selection of musical entertainment.

Full regulations and entry forms are available on the event website www.rallyyorkshire.co.uk Rally manager Rod Parkin said: “We think we have set out a great route this year and, as well as looking forward to welcoming all those challenging for honours in the British Championship, believe the Trackrod offers something for almost every category.”

Parkin’s point is illustrated by the inclusion of a Pre ’87 class in the historic event – expanding the traditional Trackrod Historic Cup, which will now be known as the Trackrod Pre ’87 & Historic Cup, to encompass vehicles accommodated within next year’s proposed Pre RAC Pre ’87 Championship.

The Yorkshire-based rally has made no secret of its keenness to be included in the proposed eight-round series, having formerly been part of the HRCR British Historic Championship in addition to being a regular feature on the Motoscope Northern Historic Championship calendar.

“We are looking at this year’s Trackrod as a taster for the new Pre ’87 Championship and are very enthusiastic about the idea,” added Parkin.

In addition to featuring as part of the British Championship, its feeder series the NGK Spark Plugs BRC Challenge and the Motoscope Northern Historic Championship, the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire Clubman’s Trophy forms a round of several regional rally title chases while the always popular Land Rover Challenge brings its own unique fascination to the event.
