A YORK MP has called for answers over how the legacy of the London Olympics and Team GB’s success will benefit schools in the city.
Questions over the amount of additional sports funding support the Government will provide for York youngsters have been lodged with the Department for Education by Julian Sturdy , who represents York Outer.
He said: “The whole country has been glued to their television screens and quite rightly swept up in Olympic fever, and the success of Team GB – led by a huge number of Yorkshire-produced Olympians – has been a uniting cause for celebration.
“With the end of the Games approaching, we must focus on delivering a real legacy for the whole country, particularly our children.
“It’s imperative the Government builds on these Olympics by immediately supporting sports funding in schools both in York and elsewhere, and I hope to receive a positive response from the Department for Education in due course.”
