A YORKSHIRE Euro MP has thrown his hat into the ring to become the new Police and Crime Commissioner for East Yorkshire.

UKIP member Godfrey Bloom, who represents Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire in Brussels, will be up against candidates including former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott for the Humberside Police post, with elections being held in November.

Mr Bloom said: “The British police are still the best in the world, but constant political interference has unfortunately diminished their status in the community, and their job has become dominated by paperwork and political correctness.

“I believe that no crime should go unpunished and I have a strict no-tolerance view of anti-social behaviour. I want to give Humberside Police the support they deserve and the local community the police force they deserve.”
