York’s Dave Scaum narrowly missed out final victory in stage two of the Jorvik Security Darts Open, losing 3-2 to Ferrybridge’s Colin Hendry, writes Mark Smith.

Hendry produced the highest check-out of the night with a 154 finish for a 15 dart leg.

Scaum (18-20) had earlier scored two 180s in his 3-0 semi-final win over Martin Usher, while Hendry beat Lutz Leutsch 3-2.

The quarter-finalists, who also qualify for the Grand Finals on Friday, September 7, were York’s Dave Kerr, Mick Wilsden and Al Stevens, along with Mark Greenley, of Driffield.

The match of the second stage saw Danny Taal (18, 18, 13) defeat Chris Kellett (17, 19) 3-2 with both players hitting 180s, while Kellett fired in a 16-dart leg in an earlier match. Other highlights from the earlier rounds saw Kerr include three 20-dart legs plus an 18, Scaum 18, 21 and 18 darts, Leutsch 20, 18 and 14.

Wilsden’s first appearance at a York Darts Promotion’s event saw him include a 180 plus 15 and 19-dart legs.

Sharron Neads, one of three female entrants, hit a 140, while high check-outs came from Kerr 108, Darren Cartwright 103 and Chris Mathews 120.

The third qualifying stage is at Huntington WMC on Friday, August 17. Registration closes at 8pm.
