EMERGENCY repairs are being carried out on roads in two North Yorkshire towns less than a year after a £2 million mending programme was launched.
North Yorkshire County Council has admitted it is “extremely disappointed” by the need for more work on the routes in the Harrogate and Knaresborough area just months after the initial scheme was completed, but business leaders in the towns have criticised a “lack of quality control” and said more disruption will hit traders.
The latest repairs will be done over a six-week period from August 20 and include major roads such as Wetherby Road, Victoria Avenue, Knaresborough Road and King’s Road.
Coun Gareth Dadd, the council’s executive member for highways, said the additional costs would be met by contractor Aggregate Industries, which was responsible for the original programme of repairs.
