I WOULD like to thank all the people who came to my assistance when I was knocked down in Moss Street near Scarcroft Green by a cyclist who was old enough to know better (The Press, August 8).

Fiona who stayed with me and mopped the blood off me; a nice lady driver in a Tesco van who brought a first-aid kit, applied a tight bandage round my head which was pouring with blood; Brian Brown who rang for the ambulance; my friend Les, who was with me, also the paramedic who tested me for everything, and the ambulance crew who had to drive 30 miles to get to me; the nurses and doctor at York Hospital for their care; the Fleetways taxi driver who drove me gently home; Les for continued care after such a shock.

By the way I am 81 and my face is a mess of bruises. The cyclist never even apologised. Something should be done about these flouters of the law and soon.

Yours gratefully, to all those who helped me, otherwise I’d still be there with a hanky over my face to stem the blood.

Beryl Hall, Bishophill Senior, York.
