TRANSPORT links to a North Yorkshire town’s conference centre and tourist attractions are to be improved after £1.65 million of Government funding was secured.
The money from the Department for Transport will pay for work on routes between Harrogate International Centre and the bus and railway stations in the town, as well as reducing the amount of time buses are stuck in queues, in a three-year programme. Junction improvements and signal upgrades will be carried out and new cycle routes put in place along the A661, including better links to the Great Yorkshire Showground and Harrogate and District Hospital, while the funding will also be used for campaigns encouraging more environmentally friendly modes of transport.
North Yorkshire County Council is reconsidering its plans to spend £1.4 million on transport improvements in Harrogate, saying traffic signals work will still go ahead but it will look again at proposals for Parliament Street and Station Parade.
