ALMOST 19,000 tickets have now been sold for the York Mystery Plays – and some matinee performances are almost sold out.

Organisers said tickets are selling at the rate of about 500 a day, with people buying them from as far away as Australia and the United States.

There has also been a block booking for 33 seats from a Netherlands-based company, said spokesman Thomas Feeney.

He said matinee performances were selling particularly well with, for example, only 40 out of 1,400 tickets left for the performance on August 18.

The Plays include a cast of 500, as well as professional actors Ferdinand Kingsley and Graeme Hawley, will be staged in the Museum Gardens throughout August.
