A MOTHER has appeared before York magistrates charged with the manslaughter of her baby son.
Gemma O’Donnell, 27, is alleged to have caused Leighton O’Donnell’s death between November 28 and December 4, 2010, but not to have intended to kill him or give him a really serious injury.
She is expected to deny the charge, which was brought after a lengthy police investigation and consideration by the CPS.
O’Donnell, of Bright Street, off Leeman Road in York, was represented by solicitor Colin Byrne during the brief hearing, at which magistrates sent the case to be tried by a judge and jury.
They released her on bail. Because the charge is manslaughter, her next appearance will be before Leeds Crown Court on July 16.
