THE language skills of pupils at a North Yorkshire school have been recognised in a global competition.

Cundall Manor School was ranked as the top-performing school of its size in England through the online Language Perfect initiative, which saw schools throughout the world compete by answering language questions.

The school, near Helperby, came seventh out of all UK schools and nine of its pupils won bronze awards, with one winning silver and Antony Hunzinger being classed as “elite” – putting him in the top 0.2 per cent in the world.

The school is now preparing to stage its annual languages day, which will see pupils don various national dress costumes and learn how to make chocolate, as well as enjoying salsa dancing, a French comedy sketch, mosaic-making and tasting foreign foods.
