York Pet show entry form>>

ENTRIES are flooding in thick and fast for an event featuring the region’s most show-stopping pets.

Pampered pets in five categories – best small animal, best small and large dogs, best cat and best exotic animal – will get the chance to win a year’s supply of food at Thompsons Country Store, which is holding its second annual pet show this summer.

The show welcomes dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and less fluffy species such as reptiles.

The Thompsons Country Store competition, which will be held at Murton Auction Centre, will see judges decide on the winner and two runners-up in each category.

Each of the five winners will be presented with a trophy and a year’s supply of pet food based on the average size of the animal. Two runners-up in each category will receive a rosette.

Jessica Sparnenn, the owner of last year’s winner in the best large dog category, will be one of those attending the event this year – hoping her Irish red setter Neala will once again make her proud.

In total, there have been about 45 entries across the five categories, with dozens more expected before the event, on Saturday, July 28.

Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy the event last year.

The family fun day, supported by The Press, will also feature a falconry display, the tailwaggers dog display team and “have a go” events for dogs.

There will also be stalls, pet feeding advice and Sam’s Safari will be on site with reptiles and exotic animals that visitors will get a chance to hold.

If you think your furry friend has what it takes, then entry forms are available in store, and can also be submitted online at yorkpress.co.uk/petshow .
