York Knavesmire Harriers are leading the way in the York & District Summer League.

Harriers runner Chris Roberts has been in superb form all summer and heads the open category. He was second in the Bishop Wilton ten-kilometre race and fourth on Knavesmire, putting him in pole position to finish in top spot with one race remaining.

Ian Anderson leads the men’s 40 division and is also third in the overall standings.

Ian Bithell raced well at Bishop Wilton, clocking 50 minutes, four seconds, and is third in the men’s 60 category.

The Mire lead the team standings with one race to go and look odds-on to walk away with the title.

In the women’s section, Harriers’ Emma Yates leads in two categories.

After winning at Bishop Wilton in 40-29 and Easingwold in 39-41, Yates has a lead in the open rankings over Sarah Douglas and Andrea Lancaster. Yates also holds first place in the women’s 35, with Lancaster second.

In women’s 45, Janet Cordingley produced a good race at Bishop Wilton, clocking 49-20 to claim first place in the women’s 45 race.

Maureen Medlar maintained her first place in women’s 55.

The Knavesmire women are leading the team standings and, with one race to run at Selby, they are on course to win the title.

Meanwhile, Yates won the Castle Howard 10k Trail Race in 41-56.

Liz Matthews produced a great run to win the women’s 50 section in 54-19, while Gill Barker was second in women’s 50 and Maureen Medlar was runner-up in women’s 55 in 57-11.

The Mire team also claimed first place honours.

The men’s race was won by Birchfield Harriers’ Ben Livesey in 34-01, but the Mire men took the team prize thanks to the efforts of Roberts, Simon Collins, Sam Ellis and Pete Downs.
