A TEAM of mountain bike stunt riders will stage a spectacular display at Tockwith Show next month.

Savage Skills, the freestyle stars of ITV’s talent show Let’s Get Gold, who have eight world and 25 British championship titles between them, will also invite young people to have a go themselves and learn from the experts.

Show chairman Sam Blacker said he hoped the high-profile main ring attraction would help draw in the crowds for the event, which is being staged on a Sunday for the first time in its history, on August 5.

“One of the biggest challenges for the show committee is finding things that older children will enjoy and this seemed to fit the bill perfectly,” he said.

“With the show attracting crowds of around 10,000 people a year, we work hard to find new things to keep everyone entertained and to bring back the most popular attractions.

“The gun-dogs are returning this year by popular demand and the National Farmers’ Union will be bringing their roadshow at which children will be able to learn how to milk a cow.

“As the show is being held in the middle of the Olympic Games there will be an Olympic theme to some of the children’s competitions and a couple of special sporting attractions that will hopefully grab the attention of older children.”

Mr Blacker said one of the most popular classes, the fur and feather section, had been extended this year, with new stewards in charge and the move to a Sunday had provided an opportunity to dedicate Saturday to putting on dressage classes on the show field, a new addition to the regular show sections.

He said: “We want this to be a great community event and something that the whole family can enjoy and that was one of the reasons for moving it to a Sunday, which is now the day most families spend together.”

The show takes place at Tockwith and District Showground on Cattal Moor Lane. Ticket prices are £7.50 for adults, with children under 16 free and free car parking.
