YORK 1 picked up back-to-back wins over their second team and title rivals Fulford in the IT Sports York Mixed Doubles Tennis League.

Phil Langley and Louise Marshman were in top form as they led the firsts to victory in their spat with the Clifton Park club’s second string.

Champions Dunnington also beat their second team, inspired by Dave Walton and Lynsey Jacks, while 31-game winners Sean Evans and Eleanor Bradshaw helped Fulford get back on track at Castlegarth.

Howard Pallister teamed up with Anne Jackson in an unbeaten run for York thirds, but a final 11-1 success for Jeremy Reddish and Angela Crossley helped Castlegarth notch their first win.

Unbeaten Ben Walker and Julie Noonan ensured Wigginton stayed top of division two by edging a close match at Rufforth.

High-scoring Dave Bradley and Jackie Heels kept up Fulford’s unbeaten run at Bishopthorpe, while Stamford Bridge earned their first point with a hard-fought draw against Copmanthorpe, led by unbeaten Chris Bowles and Natalie Muir.

David Lloyd top division three after two more wins – against Sherburn and Sutton-on-Derwent – led by Andy Holmes and Frances Mutter.

Sherburn bounced back with a win against Appleton Roebuck thanks to Phil Bremner and Rachel Huggins’ crucial 12-0 triumph in the final round.

James Parker and Andrene Watson top-scored for Bishopthorpe against Tollerton, who are the only unbeaten side in division six.

Matt and Lorraine Waudby scored 28 games for Wigginton against Cawood to move into second place.

Poppleton lead division seven after wins against injury-hit Wistow and York. Mal Pringle and Caroline White were then York’s winners at Wheldrake to break their points duck.

Billy Bartram and Anna Fell won their first rubber 10-2 for Sutton-on-Derwent at New Earswick and that proved to be the difference in a close-fought game.

Alan Bradshaw and Trish Leach top-scored for Heworth as they beat Wistow in division nine. James Silson and Sarah Huggins were unbeaten for Wistow, and were on the winning side against David Lloyd.

A second round win by Toby Conyers-Kelly and Anne Barfoot saw Stillington bag their first win in division ten against Wilberfoss.

Poppleton top the division after a 10-2 win by top scorers Jason Brigham and Sally Bell-Syer in the last round against Wilberfoss.
