A DELEGATION of Canadian airmen were among those who gathered in Sutton-on-the-Forest for an annual memorial service on Saturday.
Wreaths were laid at the village’s memorial to members of the Royal Canadian Air Force who were stationed at nearby Eastmoor Airfield during the Second World War.
Mike Rigby, chair of the parish council, said: “There were about 100 people there for the service including 17 Canadians who were flown in from Canada and Germany. It’s the biggest number of people we have had.”
He said the airmen spent Friday visiting Sutton Park before calling in to Sutton-on-the Forest Primary School to answer questions from pupils.
The pupils returned the favour by laying a wreath during the memorial service.
A wreath was also laid by a grandson of one of the original veterans from the Second World War.
