POLICE and fire chiefs have launched a joint investigation after a blaze broke out at a York flat.

Firefighters were called to a property on Thoresby Road in Acomb, shortly before 4pm yesterday.

Two fire crews got the blaze under control and police helped with traffic control as investigations into the cause of the fire got under way. It is believed nobody was inside the flat and there are no reports of anyone being harmed in connection with the fire.

At this time it is unknown how the fire started. A joint fire and police investigation has begun.

Three police officers and police community support officers remained at the scene last night as onlookers watched on.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to phone North Yorkshire Police on 101.
