AN album in the newest sense of the word. To borrow a phrase from the past, it is more of an experience or ‘happening’ – see for yourself by going to the website that is also the title.
Broderick was in the highly tuneful Danish collective Efterklang, and has spent the past five years investing his soul in this project.
He has put together a collection of pictures, words and videos that explain the songs’ gestation, which listeners can engage with if they choose.
As with Bjork’s similar musical smorgasbord, the question is, can the music stand alone? It perhaps lacks the initial wow factor, but given time it is a diverse compelling piano-led set, with an array of influences and sounds, held together by the man’s vision.
It has a quietly impressive power, and the production (care of co-conspirator Nils Frahm) is first class. It deserves to be widely heard, so be one of the first to listen.
