Students in North Yorkshire will help choose a national programme of after-school activities that will be offered to thousands of children to help them fulfil their potential.

Fifteen pupils from Barlby High School, in Selby, are to work with The Transformation Trust, a charity which provides extracurricular events in some of the most deprived areas of the country.

All events aim to ensure young people have the opportunity to take part in activities and events which can help transform their lives.

The group will form a Young Peoples’ Advisory Group and take part in a workshop to decide on the activities while developing their analysis, presentation and decision-making skills.

Heather Scott, head teacher, said: “Opportunities for young people to have such an impact in the decision-making processes for a national organisation don’t come along every day. I am thrilled that our pupils are able to take part in this workshop which will play a large part in the final decisions made by the charity’s trustees.”
