AS RESIDENTS of Fulford will know, I have been working with residents, the council and the Highways Agency for months to try to find a solution to the problem of noise from a fault on the A64 Fulford-Bishopthorpe bridge.
I was concerned that, despite the problem, residents had been told a permanent repair would not be attempted until 2014.
Last month, I got in touch with all affected residents asking them to sign a letter I had written to the Highways Agency demanding action.
This has had an impact because the agency contacted me recently to say they are hoping to secure funding to repair the bridge later this year.
They have also agreed to send a team with welding equipment next week to attempt a temporary fix.
Although they have admitted there are no guarantees this will be successful, I am pleased that at last there is a chance that those living nearby will be able to sleep soundly.
If any other residents have been affected by the road noise, please contact me.
Coun Keith Aspden, Liberal Democrat, Fulford ward.
