THIS diamond couple are celebrating 60 years of married life today.
Tom and Betty Cuncliffe, of Fairfax Court in Acomb, first met as teenagers when they both worked for Storey Evans and Co printers in Leeds in 1948.
They both left Storeys to work elsewhere – Mrs Cuncliffe as a clerk at the council and Mr Cuncliffe for a different printing firm.
But they kept in touch and started seeing each other before marrying at St John’s Church, Yeadon, Leeds, on March 15, 1952.
They lived in Leeds for the first few years of their marriage before moving to York in 1954 and since then have lived at different addresses in Acomb, including Briar Avenue and Acomb Green, before settling at their current home, where they have lived for 12 years.
Mr Cuncliffe, 86, and Mrs Cuncliffe, 83, said the secret of their marriage had been “lots of arguments and lots of making up”.
They will be celebrating with two parties, one at home and another at the Beechwood Hotel in Clifton.
They have two sons, Ian and Barry, and three grandchildren, Sarah, Gemma and Richard.
