AN East Yorkshire hospital is investing nearly £50,000 on energy efficiency measures designed to reduce carbon emissions and cut bills by thousands of pounds each year.
The £47,000 project at Bridlington Hospital will see insulation fitted throughout the building’s loft space, saving an estimated 78 tonnes of carbon each year – around eight percent of its carbon reduction target – and bringing yearly savings of about £12,000.
James Hayward, director of facilities, said: “Analysis of the current energy consumption and insulation levels of Bridlington Hospital suggest that the annual cost to the Trust of heat loss through the roof space is £14,000; this represents 16 per cent of the annual gas utility cost for the hospital. This project demonstrates our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and in contributing to the Government’s carbon reduction targets of 80 percent by 2050.”
