A YORK mother has been given the all-clear following bowel cancer surgery and is now looking forward to seeing her talented daughter sing alongside Bee Gee Robin Gibb.
Choirgirl Isabel Suckling, 14, who won a five-album deal with record company Decca in 2010, is to perform alongside Gibb at a performance of his orchestral work, Titanic Requiem, next month in London.
Her mother, Catherine, has now revealed she has been given the all-clear following delicate bowel cancer surgery five year’s ago and is looking forward to seeing her daughter perform at the show as one of three soloists, which also includes singer and TV presenter Aled Jones.
Mrs Suckling said: “Robin Gibb had the same cancer as me and I was told there was only a 30 per cent chance of me being alive today.
“I was just so lucky being in York. I had the best surgeon –David Alexander – and I owe my life to him.
“Reaching the five-year mark is a psychological milestone.”
Isabel, from Fulford, said she is delighted at her mother’s recovery.
She said: “I was very young when mum got ill and I didn’t quite understand it. My brother Jack was 13 then, so he had a harder time. I’m relieved she’s got the all-clear.”
The concert will take place on April 10 in Central Hall, Westminster, almost 100 years to the day that the Titanic sank on it’s maiden voyage across the Atlantic.
Isabel’s proud mother said: “I would’t miss it for the world. I will certainly be there.”
