TOO many cooks did not spoil the broth at Huntington School when budding chefs took part in a national cookery challenge in a bid to get more people cooking and to win a share of a £5000 prize pot.

About 50 pupils, parents and teachers last week joined more than 56,000 budding chefs from across the country in the Let’s Get Cooking BIG Cookathon 2012, which aimed to get as many people as possible cooking a healthy dish.

The York secondary school competed against 400 school-based clubs, to prepare a ham-and-leek cheesy crumble or vegetarian cheesy veggie crumble, in an attempt to win a share of the £5,000 prize money to spend on club activity and equipment.

The winners of the competition will be announced in May.
