A CT scanning service has been introduced at a York hospital, enabling doctors to obtain a better analysis of conditions affecting organs such as the lungs, kidneys and liver.
York Nuffield Hospital, on Haxby Road, says the new service will allow radiologists to see a three-dimensional image of the affected area of the body – picking out tiny abnormalities. “This accuracy helps in the early detection of disease and injury, allowing effective treatment planning,” said a hospital spokesman.
“CT stands for computed topography and involves the using a rotational beam of x-rays to take multi-slice cross sectional images of the part of the body under investigation.”
The hospital team said the brain could also be scanned to diagnose neurological problems, while the bones and muscles can also be looked at for a variety of reasons where x-ray alone is insufficient.
