ETHICAL traders gathered in York for the city’s annual Festival Of Fairtrade market.
Visitors enjoyed the spring sunshine as traders filled Parliament Street from Friday to Sunday, and entertainment was laid on in St Sampson’s Square.
Goods from dozens of countries were available, including foods, handicrafts, clothing and accessories.
On Saturday, shoppers were entertained by music and performances from York Samba, Yorkulele and Brazilian martial-art dance troupe York Capoeria.
Richard Lane, a spokesperson for the York Fairtrade Forum, said: “ In spite of our economic woes, Fairtrade continues to grow in the UK – up more than ten per cent in 2011.
“It shows that UK consumers do care about world poverty, and they know that Fairtrade is a way that they can help.”
