A LAST-MINUTE strike denied Acomb men’s I maximum points from their trip to second-placed Leeds IV in Yorkshire League division four.

The under-strength Tangerines soaked up huge amounts of pressure from the home side in the first half.

’Keeper Craig Brown, Pete Hilton, Dave Bell, Simon Theaker and veteran Dave Timmins ensured the teams turned around at 0-0.

Striker Ryan Forster went close to scoring in a one-on-one with the ’keeper, while Matt Dickenson, Paul Whicker, Stuart Rushworth and Dan Pratt worked tirelessly in midfield trying to free Forster and Nick Linfoot up front.

Eventually the Tangerines struck with a reverse stick goal by Dickenson.

Leeds pressed for the equaliser and, from their second penalty corner in stoppage time, the hosts scored from a rebound off Brown with the last touch of the game.

Acomb men’s II were emphatic 6-0 winners over Harrogate V, who are second in division seven north.

Harry Ellis opened the scoring at the end of the first half and the floodgates opened after the break.

Harry’s father, Mark, netted his first goal for the club and there were two goals for Dave Richardson, another for Harry Ellis and a strike by Ben Pottinger.
